Suveren, 16 Jalan Padungan, 93100 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia

These Terms and Conditions govern your use of the Suveren website and the legal advisory services we offer. By accessing our website or engaging our services, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully.

1. Definitions

2. Acceptance of Terms

By using this website or enquiring about our services, you confirm that you are aged 18 or above and have the capacity to enter into a legal agreement. Formal engagement of services is subject to a separate engagement letter and scope document, which will take precedence over these general terms where they conflict.

3. Service Description

Suveren provides legal advisory services in three practice areas: native customary land rights in Sarawak, timber and forestry regulation, and cross-border trade advisory. Services are described on our website and confirmed in writing at the commencement of each engagement. We reserve the right to decline any matter that falls outside our scope or where a conflict of interest exists.

Our services are available to clients located in Malaysia. Cross-border trade advisory extends to matters involving the Malaysia–Indonesia border region and ASEAN jurisdictions.

4. Engagement Process

No legal advisory engagement begins until both parties have agreed to a written scope of work and engagement terms. An initial enquiry or consultation does not constitute the commencement of an engagement. Work begins only upon execution of an engagement letter.

5. Client Responsibilities

Clients are expected to:

6. Fees and Payment

Fees for each engagement are set out in the relevant engagement letter. Published fee ranges on our website represent starting ranges for standard-scope engagements. Where a matter exceeds standard scope, this is discussed and agreed in writing before additional work proceeds. Fees are payable in Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) unless otherwise agreed. Payment terms are set out in the engagement letter.

7. Confidentiality

Suveren maintains strict confidentiality in relation to all client matters, in accordance with professional obligations under the Legal Profession Act 1976 and the Malaysian Bar's professional conduct rules. Legal professional privilege applies to communications made in connection with legal matters from the commencement of an engagement.

8. Intellectual Property

All content on this website — including text, structure, and visual elements — is the property of Suveren and may not be reproduced without written permission. Legal advice and documents prepared for a Client in the course of an engagement are provided for the Client's use in connection with that engagement and may not be shared with third parties without Suveren's written consent.

9. Disclaimers

Information on this website is provided for general awareness only and does not constitute legal advice. Legal outcomes depend on many factors, including administrative processes and third-party decisions, which are outside Suveren's control. Suveren does not make any representations about the outcome of any matter.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by Malaysian law, Suveren's liability in connection with any engagement is limited to the fees paid for that engagement. Suveren is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from advice provided. Nothing in these terms limits Suveren's liability for fraud or gross negligence.

11. Termination

Either party may terminate an engagement by written notice. Suveren may terminate an engagement if a conflict of interest arises, if the Client provides materially misleading information, or if payment obligations are not met. On termination, Suveren will provide a summary of work completed and any outstanding obligations.

12. Complaints and Dispute Resolution

If you have a complaint about our services, please contact us first at [email protected]. We aim to resolve complaints within 14 working days. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, it will be subject to the governing law and jurisdiction set out below.

13. Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Malaysia. Any disputes arising from or related to these terms or our services shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Malaysia, with proceedings conducted in Sarawak where applicable.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time. The current version will always be available on this page, with the date of last update indicated. Continued use of our website or services following any update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
